The third edition of the LUNAR Festival of Lights will take place in Sofia between 9 and 12 May 2024. The art event will transform the central part of the city into a huge and glowing open-air gallery, where Bulgarian and foreign artists will present exciting 3D mapping projections and light installations. The organiser and main artistic team behind the project is the Bulgarian visual effects studio MP-STUDIO, in partnership with one of the world’s most renowned light festivals Festival of Lights International. The event will be realised with the institutional support of the European Parliament in Bulgaria, the Representation of the European Commission in Bulgaria, Sofia Municipality and with the financial support of the National Culture Fund’s Creation Programme.

Access to all artworks will be free of charge.

More than 450,000 residents and guests of Sofia visited each of the first two editions of LUNAR, and more than 40 artists from 15 countries created works that gave a new look to the evening city. And this year, the capital will rank among some of the most innovative cities in the world to present compelling digital art on its streets. The four festival nights will offer audiences the chance to immerse themselves in the buildings, parks and squares that will come to life. With their impressive art, they will send important messages, directing visitors’ eyes to significant themes such as that of planetary conservation, the power of personal choice, freedom of self-expression, technological development and more.

“The first two editions of LUNAR have been a huge challenge for our team, but they have also shown us that we are on the right track and that there is a real chance that our dream of making the festival a tradition will come true. We are happy that we managed to give a stage to innovative and quality light art and we are sure that the event has the real possibility to become one of the most successful in Europe. That is why this year, together with our supporters, we have prepared a program that will be unforgettable for all visitors from both home and abroad,” said Marin Petkov, founder of MP-STUDIO and LUNAR and art director of Festival of Lights International Productions GmbH.

In order for the young people in Bulgaria to gain new knowledge in the field of contemporary audiovisual arts, free trainings for young talents will again be organized during the event. They will be hosted by the Hyatt Regency Sofia and registration will be open in March.

bTV Media Group is the main media partner of the festival and through its reports and live inclusions, will make viewers from all over the country empathize with the breathtaking footage of the festival.
