LUNAR festival was launched in 2022 in Sofia, Bulgaria, by the award-winning MP-STUDIO. Over the course of four evenings, the festival presents some of the most innovative approaches in light and digital art, transforming Sofia’s most beautiful buildings, parks, and squares into a vast open-air gallery. Through spectacular 3D projection mapping and light installations, artists from around the world tell stories, ignite the imagination, and create memorable encounters with urban space. With free entry and an audience of more than 600,000 people each year, LUNAR has become the largest art event in Bulgaria. Since its launch, the festival has provided a platform for more than 70 artists from over 20 countries, who have created nearly 200 artworks especially for the event.
Each year, LUNAR hosts the country’s first Projection Mapping Championship, bringing international talent to Bulgaria and encouraging new creative exchange.
Since 2025, LUNAR has expanded to the Southern Bulgarian Black Sea coast, continuing its mission to inspire audiences and to play a defining role in the development and popularisation of light art in Bulgaria.
The access to all artworks part of the festival is free of charge.
