LUNAR Festival of Lights will take place for the fourth time in Sofia, between May 8 and 11, 2025. As usual, the art event will transform the city center with exciting 3D mapping performances and light installations. The art of artists from all over the world will be available to see completely free of charge on each of the four festival nights, from Thursday to Sunday, between 9:00 p.m. and midnight.
The organiser and main artistic team behind the project is the Bulgarian visual effects studio MP-STUDIO, in partnership with one of the world’s most renowned light festivals Festival of Lights International. The event will be realised with the institutional support of the European Parliament in Bulgaria, the Representation of the European Commission in Bulgaria, Sofia Municipality, under the patronage to the Mayor Vassil Terziev and with the financial support of the National Culture Fund’s Creation Programme.
Since 2022, over 90 light artworks created by 57 authors and studios from 18 countries have been presented as part of the large-scale cultural event. Every year, through one of the newest types of art, LUNAR presents important messages about the future of the planet, technological development, freedom of self-expression and more, and its program is visited by over half a million residents and guests of the capital.
This year, Sofia will once again be among the most innovative cities in the world, presenting captivating digital art on its streets. The four festival nights will offer the audience the opportunity to stroll through the city transformed into an open-air gallery, thanks to the artworks created especially for the capital’s buildings, parks and squares.
“We are happy that for four years now we have been able to create a stage for innovative and high-quality light art and that LUNAR is becoming one of the traditional light festivals in Europe. This year, together with our partners people, we have prepared a high-quality artistic program that will surprise all visitors from the country and abroad,” said Marin Petkov, Founder of MP-STUDIO and LUNAR and Art Director of Festival of Lights International Productions GmbH.
Each year, the event provides a platform for both established and emerging artists to showcase their work. This year, it will continue to challenge artists through its competition program, which will be announced very soon.
bTV Media Group is the exclusive media partner of the festival and will share with the audience from all over the country breathtaking footage from the event on bTV News and current affairs shows.
