Finalist: Evolving Pulse by Luca Agnani

From the first human traces to the cities of tomorrow, at “Evolving Pulse” by Luca Agnani show the architecture evolves through an increasingly frantic pulse. Stone, symbols, structures, light and data fuse into a living organism, where civilization beats faster and faster toward the future.

What attracted you to participate in the Urban Pulse competition?
The scale of the project immediately attracted me. The opportunity to transform such a monumental part of Sofia into one immersive space was something I really wanted to experience.

What was the main inspiration behind your concept?
The main inspiration was the evolution of humanity and architecture: from the first signs inside caves to classical architecture, the industrial age, the digital world and finally a city that becomes a living organism.

If the audience closes their eyes after seeing your show, which scene or moment would you most like them to remember?
Probably the final moment, when architecture, light and data merge together and the whole city seems to breathe and pulse as one living organism.

What has been the most technically challenging aspect of creating a work for such a large-scale outdoor immersive projection environment?
Definitely the enormous scale and resolution, together with adapting the work precisely to several monumental façades. Managing the 3D environment and keeping everything visually connected was probably the biggest challenge.

What is most important for a city to be or to offer to its people? And what would be your wish for Sofia?
I think a city should give people a sense of belonging, but also the freedom to imagine its future. My wish for Sofia is to keep growing without losing its identity, history and human character.
