The show Alpha + Omega: The Semen Rama Cycle by Mödar studio presents a profound cultural fusion, intertwining the narrative of Sofia Dаy with the rich cosmology of Javanese culture through the Batik Semen Rama motif and the shadow puppetry (Wayang Kulit) tradition. It embodies the concept of “Alpha and Omega”- where the beginning and the end meet – translating the virtues of Love, Faith, and Hope into an eternal, cyclical journey toward universal wisdom.

What was the main inspiration behind your concept?
Connecting the visual philosophy of Batik Semen Rama with the celebration of Sofia Day reveals a shared reverence for supreme wisdom and the harmony of life. On one hand, Sofia Day in Bulgaria celebrates divine spirituality built upon the pillars of Faith, Hope, and Love. On the other hand, Batik Semen Rama embodies this through the concept of Triloka (the balance of the air, water, and earth realms) and the teachings of Hastha Brata. Ultimately, both traditions carry the same message: ideal life and leadership will only flourish if built upon moral wisdom, inner peace, and universal love.
If the audience closes their eyes after seeing your show, which scene or moment would you most like them to remember?
The opening scene displays the silhouettes of wayang puppets lined up on the left and right sides of the kayon. This scene holds a profound philosophical meaning: we essentially exist merely as dead shadows before a flash of light finally brings us to life to experience reality as human beings.
What has been the most technically challenging aspect of creating a work for such a large-scale outdoor immersive projection environment?
Managing three separate structures triples the asset creation, compositing, and rendering pipeline.
The event is also a celebration of Sofia Day. In your opinion, what is most important for a city to be or to offer to its people? And what would be your wish for Sofia?
