The First LUNAR Festival of Lights Transforms Sofia into a Big Open Air Art Gallery

3D Mappings and Light Installations will Make Iconic Buildings, Parks and Squares Become Art Pieces between 6-9 May

 

 

First edition of LUNAR Festival of Lights will be held in Sofia, in the days 6th – 9th of May, 2022. The event will transform the city center into a big open air gallery, in which Bulgarian and international artists will present their high-tech art. Organizer and main artistic collective behind the project is the Bulgarian visual effects studio MP-STUDIO, in partnership with one of the most popular light festivals in the world Festival of Lights International Productions GmbH. The event will be held with the support of European Parliament in Bulgaria, the representative office of the European Commission in Bulgaria and under the patronage of the Chairman of Sofia Municipal Council Georgi Georgiev. The festival will be with free entrance for all citizens and guests of the city.

During a walking tour in the city center, audience will be able to explore the well-known town in new light. Through 3D mapping shows, light projections and sculptures, LUNAR festival will tell stories, provoke imagination and drive the attention to the new trends in digital art. Some of the iconic facades, parks and squares will “come to life”, thanks to its colorful light artworks.

Through its art LUNAR aims to tell stories and to share important messages with its visitors. One of them will be related to the peace, unity, solidarity and the way to sustainability – topics, which will be incorporated into a 3D projection mapping for celebration of the Day of Europe, with the support of European Parliament in Bulgaria and the representative office of European Commission in Bulgaria.

Festival’s artists will direct public’s attention to the inspiring of hope for a new life by raising awareness of donations and transplantations in Bulgaria, thanks to the efforts in this area of the pharmaceutical company Astellas.

Young people will have the opportunity to gain new knowledge in the area of the contemporary audio-visual arts, during the free trainings, organized as part of the festival. Their host will be hotel Hyatt Regency Sofia, and application will be open for participants in the following weeks.

Bulgarian artists will have the opportunity to create their artworks for one of the largest facades in the capital – the one of the National Palace of Culture. They will be able to participate in a competition, organized by eMAG. Details will be announced soon.
