International Digital Arts Experts Teach Young Talents During LUNAR

The creation of 3D mapping, exciting animations, creative concepts and fascinating night shots of the city will be just some of the topics of the program

Leading international experts from the world of light art will participate in trainings for young talents on May 13 and 14, 2023. The seminars will focus on acquiring new knowledge and skills in the field of 3D mapping, visual effects and night photography. They will be part of the educational program of the second LUNAR Festival of Lights in Sofia and will be completely free for the participants.

The program aims to increase the knowledge of Bulgarian talents in the field of contemporary visual arts and their technical implementation. The seminars will be hosted by the Hyatt Regency Sofia hotel, and anyone who wishes can participate, after mandatory pre-registration.

In 2022, more than 100 people became part of the program, in which eight speakers shared the secrets of one of the newest types of art. For the second year in a row, within two days, experts from Bulgaria, Germany and the Netherlands will share their knowledge and examine key practical aspects from the creation to the filming of light art. Jonas Pilz from the leading software  multimedia production company Maxon will arrive from Germany especially for the trainings. He will hold a masterclass on Cinema 4D in which he will reveal the secret ingredients for creating impressive animations

The other international expert, part of the program, will be the Dutch video specialist Remko Keepers, who has led the technical teams of some of the biggest light festivals and events realized in half the globe. He will demonstrate different methods of 3D field mapping.

The founders of LUNAR festival – MP-STUDIO will share their 15 years of experience in three workshops. Two of them will focus on creating compelling 3D mapping shows, with the topic being covered in both beginner and advanced versions. They will be led by Marin Petkov, founder of MP-STUDIO and Marin Dimitrov, operations director of the company.

The creative director of the studio, Strahil Yordanov, will share how inspiration and ideas can be transformed into a creative concept for visual narratives that leave a mark on the audience’s mind.

Selected author’s projects that consider light as a means of creative expression will be presented by the visual artist Petko Tanchev during his lecture “Light Space”. It will focus on combining spatial thinking and custom software tools.

The big surprise for all photography fans this year is that Ivan Shishiev, the author of the most beautiful shots of the capital and creator of the page “Sketches of Sofia” will join the program with his lecture. The talented photographer, who makes the capital’s residents open their eyes wide to its beauty, will share what every photographer needs to consider when capturing the night city and how to turn every moment into an extraordinary shot.

LUNAR Festival of Lights will take place between May 11-14, and more than 20 of the most emblematic locations in the capital will be part of it. The event was realized with the support of the European Parliament in Bulgaria and the representation of the European Commission in Bulgaria, Sofia Municipality and under the patronage of the chairman of the Sofia Municipal Council, Georgi Georgiev.
